The Karnataka Congress Chief, DK Shivakumar, has expressed confidence in his party’s chances of winning the upcoming state elections. In an interview with NDTV, Shivakumar stated that he has been assured of the Congress party rewarding his hard work and loyalty.
“I have been a loyal party man, never betrayed the party… We will deliver Karnataka, then we leave it to the high command. High command has always stood by the people who stand by the party. We believe in them. I have confidence in our leadership,” said Shivakumar.
He also highlighted his tireless efforts in reviving the party when it was in a weak position. “I have not slept and travelled to every nook and corner of the state and taken all along. We have built a strong organisation and a united front against the BJP,” he said.
Shivakumar revealed that the Congress party has reached a consensus on 175 seats and is confident of securing nearly 140 seats in the elections. He dismissed any possibility of having an alliance with the Janata Dal (Secular), led by former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy.
“There is no question of any alliance with the JDS. We will fight them tooth and nail,” he said. Shivakumar accused the JDS of betraying the people twice by joining hands with the BJP without a mandate and failing to deliver on their promises.
Addressing the reports of a cold war between the top two leaders in the Congress party from Karnataka, Shivakumar stated that both the leaders are working together to counter the divisive policy of hate of the BJP.
Late on April 6, news emerged of a senior Congress leader ‘lobbying’ for the post of chief ministership in the presence of several media houses in Delhi. The Congress leadership has reportedly taken note of the act and will soon take action.
The upcoming elections in Karnataka have been highly anticipated, with the Congress party hoping to secure a victory against the ruling BJP. The statements made by Shivakumar highlight the party’s efforts to strengthen its position and take on its opponents.
