Twitter has reacted to the deletion of certain important chapters from the class 10 syllabus. The students will no longer the topics of the periodic table, democracy, and sources of energy from their government-issued textbooks.
Make them dumber, coz that’s how we progress. Right? Also ironic how the biggest democracy in the world doesn’t want to teach its kids democracy. #ModiMasterstroke #NCERT pic.twitter.com/LhCs0XrBQU

This is the second instance when the removal of particular chapters has started a debate in public uproar. Earlier this year, the deletion of the theory of evolution also received widespread criticism from people online and otherwise.
Environment sustainability and sources of energy are two other chapters that have been dropped from the science textbooks.

In its response, NCERT has stated that the removal of chapters is in line with the government’s policy of reducing the burden on students after the pandemic. The board also cited the “content irrelevant in the present context” to be one of the major reasons for the removal of chapters.
They've dissolved the chapter on periodic table. They've blacklisted the one on democracy. NCERT has decided these topics are irrelevant to Class X students. We think this is a text book case of idiocy. What do you think? pic.twitter.com/yirsEZ1VyI

While several political observers called out the removal of a topic as important as democracy, science experts have also talked about the importance of the periodic table. While talking to a report by the scientific journal Nature, a science-education researcher at Stanford University stated that the periodic table is one of the greatest achievements of chemists.

“Due to Covid-19, rationalisation of courses was going on, to reduce the burden of studies on the child. If a child wants to study, Darwin’s Theory is available on all websites. In Class 12, there is already Darwin’s Theory in the syllabus so there should not be such false propaganda,” Minister of State (MoS) for Education Subhas Sarkar said.
