A hostel warden in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur has been suspended following an incident where a Class 9 student, enrolled in the social welfare department’s hostel, gave birth at a local hospital.
Full Story:
The incident revolves around a Class 9 student from Kashapura in Bagepalli town, Karnataka, who had been residing in the social welfare department’s hostel for a year since her enrollment in Class 8. The girl’s irregular attendance and frequent visits to a relative had gone unnoticed, despite a medical checkup conducted in August the previous year. Surprisingly, the pregnancy was not detected during the checkup, leading to concerns about the effectiveness of the monitoring system in place.
Sources indicate a connection between the girl and a Class 10 boy who attended the same school. However, after completing school, the boy obtained a Transfer Certificate (TC) and moved to Bangalore. The circumstances leading to the girl’s pregnancy and the role of the boy are currently under investigation.
Krishnappa S, Joint Director of the Social Welfare Department in Tumkur, commented on the incident, stating that the girl’s prolonged absence from the hostel had raised suspicions. He noted that the discovery of her pregnancy occurred when she sought medical attention for stomach pain. The incident has prompted a comprehensive investigation, with the intention of submitting a detailed report to the government.
The irregular attendance of the girl and her ability to visit a relative frequently without detection point towards potential gaps in supervision. The effectiveness of medical checkups also comes into question, given that the pregnancy remained unnoticed despite a previous examination. The police are actively searching for the Class 10 boy involved in the case.
