Getting inspired by an American crime show ‘Dexter’, a 28-year-old man in Delhi, allegedly killed his live-in partner. Aftab Ameen Poonawala kept the parts of his partner’s body in a refrigerator and scattered them each day. Police sources stated that the body parts were scattered across the Mehrauli forest. To get rid of the smell, he lit ‘agarbattis’ in the apartment.
Aftab had chopped his girlfriend into 35 pieces and disposed of those pieces across 18 days. Police reports state that he would dispose of around 2-3 pieces every night at 2 AM.

His partner, Shraddha, had left her family against the wish of the parents to live with Poonawala. He was arrested when the father of the 26-year-old Shraddha came to Delhi from Maharashtra and filed a complaint of kidnapping. Through their interrogation, the police found out that he had committed the crime around five months ago. The alleged reason was her insistence on marriage.
Aftab and Shraddha’s story
Aftab and Shraddha had met in Mumbai while they were working together. Shraddha’s family did not approve of the relationship as the boy was Muslim, which made her elope the family. She eventually settled down in Delhi. The couple worked in the call center of a multinational company, and also rented a place.
Police in charge also stated that the couple argued over the issue of marriage. The issue escalated, and the man strangled the woman. It has also been alleged that Aftab bought the 300 liters refrigerator to store the pieces.

Crime resurfaced after 5 months
Months after the issue, Shraddha’s father, who had not been speaking to the daughter, came down to Delhi from Vasai, Mumbai. He reportedly made the trip after one of Shraddha’s friends told him that her phone was switched off for a few weeks.
Aftab’s social media profiles show that he advocated women’s and lgbtqia+ rights. Besides the general uproar against the issue, many are also highlighting the hypocrisy on social media.
