Captain Monica Khanna’s quick thinking saved the lives of around 185 passengers on board the SpiceJet flight that caught fire shortly after takeoff on Sunday from Patna airport.
The Delhi-bound flight with 185 passengers made an emergency landing at the Patna airport after one of the engines caught fire following a bird hit shortly after take-off from Patna.

Monica’s intelligent decision-making and calm during the emergency helped in the safe landing of the aircraft, without causing injury to any passengers. She switched off the affected engine and helped to safely manoeuvre the flight with her co-pilot Balpreet Singh Bhatia.
Monica Khanna, who was the pilot-in-command during the incident, is a highly-qualified pilot at SpiceJet Limited. According to her Instagram profile, Monica loves to travel and has a deep interest in the latest fashion and trends.

Gurcharan Arora, the chief of flight operations at Spicejet lauded the pilot for her quick action. “Captain Monika Khanna and first officer Balpreet Singh Bhatia conducted themselves well during the incident. They were calm throughout and handled the aircraft well. They are experienced officers and we’re proud of them,” Arora told ANI.

The fact that no passenger was harmed during the overweight landing of the aircraft makes the feat even more remarkable.
