On the fateful evening of July 5, K. Armstrong, a prominent political figure and former Councillor of the Greater Chennai Corporation, was reportedly attacked by a gang of six unidentified individuals as he was entering his house. The brutal assault took place at approximately 7.30 pm, leaving Armstrong with grievous injuries. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital on Greams Road, but tragically, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The news of Armstrong’s untimely demise has left the community in shock and grief, with many expressing outrage at the audacity and brutality of the attack. The tragic loss of K. Armstrong has not only shaken his supporters and well-wishers. Still, it has also raised serious concerns about the safety and security of political leaders and activists in the state.

Thol Thirumavalavan’s Demand for Justice: Lok Sabha MP and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan has released a statement demanding the arrest of the miscreants under the Goondas Act. He termed the murder a “cowardly act” and emphasized the significant loss that Armstrong’s death represents for oppressed communities. Director Pa Ranjith, who arrived at the scene, was visibly shaken and emotionally devastated by the brutal murder of K. Armstrong.

Leaders from various political parties, including Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader RS Praveen, have condemned the murder and expressed their heartfelt condolences to Armstrong’s bereaved family.

BSP supremo Mayawati termed Armstrong “a strong Dalit voice” and condemned his brutal killing, demanding that the Tamil Nadu government punish the guilty. The BSP supporters held protests across Tamil Nadu, seeking a CBI probe into Armstrong’s murder and demanding justice for the influential leader.

In response to the shocking crime, the Chennai Police swiftly initiated an investigation into the murder. On Saturday, July 6, eight suspects, including Arcot Balu, were arrested in connection with the heinous act.

The tragic murder of K. Armstrong has also sparked a political fallout, with the BSP criticizing the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government over the state of law and order in Tamil Nadu. The opposition party’s critical remarks have raised questions about the overall security and safety of political leaders in the state.

K Armstrong, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Tamil Nadu president, had a significant impact on the party and the Dalit community in the region.

Initially a controversial figure with a history of criminal cases, Armstrong later emerged as a prominent Dalit advocate and a strong voice for the marginalized communities in Tamil Nadu. He played a pivotal role in organizing a mega rally in Chennai and inviting BSP chief Mayawati, demonstrating his commitment to the party and its principles.

Despite leading the state unit of the BSP, a party with minimal influence in Tamil Nadu, Armstrong was known for his active role in local mediation and political activism. He was elected to the Chennai Corporation Council in 2006 and contested in the 2011 assembly elections, gaining substantial support from the masses.

Armstrong was widely recognized for advocating for social welfare and actively participating in community-building initiatives, solidifying his reputation as a formidable leader. His work to support the educational and employment pursuits of young people in North Chennai earned him widespread popularity and respect.

The untimely and brutal demise of K. Armstrong has sent shockwaves through the political and social fabric of Tamil Nadu, prompting demands for swift and decisive action to ensure that justice is served. The widespread outpouring of grief and outrage underscores the profound impact of Armstrong’s loss on the community and the urgent need for closure in the wake of this tragic event.
