Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy, known for his close association with Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, was stabbed during a campaign event in Siddipet on Monday. Despite the attack, Reddy’s condition is reported to be stable, and he has been transferred to a hospital for medical care. Reddy is contesting from Dubbak assembly segment for the upcoming November 30 polls.
The incident, which occurred in Surampally village of the Daulatabad mandal, caused immediate concern, with N Swetha, Siddipet Commissioner, providing reassurance about Reddy’s safety. Swetha informed ANI, “MP Kotha Prabhakar Reddy is safe. He has been shifted to Gajwel. The alleged accused is in custody, we are investigating the matter.”Television footage captured the unsettling scene of Prabhakar Reddy tending to his stab wound in the stomach to stop the bleeding while seated in a vehicle. The assailant, as reported by PTI, was confronted and “beaten up” by some local individuals.
Reddy, a current MP from Medak in Telangana, assumed the position in 2014 when KCR vacated the seat to become the chief minister. Recently nominated as the candidate from Dubbak, he is facing competition from the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Raghunandan Rao in the upcoming polls.
The state of Telangana, presently under the governance of BRS, is set for elections on November 30, with the vote count scheduled for December 3. This incident has brought attention to the security concerns surrounding political campaigning, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of all candidates during the electoral process.
Despite the unfortunate incident, the prompt action taken by authorities to ensure Reddy’s well-being and the apprehension of the alleged attacker underscores the commitment to maintaining law and order in the region. As the investigation progresses, the focus remains on securing a safe and peaceful electoral environment for all participants and voters alike.
