The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its third list of candidates for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections, adding 10 new names to its previously announced list. The announcement comes just three days before the deadline for filing nominations, with the polls scheduled for May 10, 2023.
The BJP’s latest list includes Mahesh Teninkai as the candidate for the Hubli-Dharwad Central Assembly segment, which was previously held by Jagadish Shettar, a former Chief Minister from the party who recently left to join the Indian National Congress. The move has reportedly influenced the party’s decision-making, with more tickets being given to family members of senior leaders.

One such example is Umesh Shetty, who has been given the ticket for the Govindraj Nagar constituency in Bengaluru, currently represented by senior minister V Somanna. Somanna had requested that his son Arun Somanna be given a chance to contest from the seat, after he himself was fielded from two Assembly segments – Chamarajanagar and Varuna.
The BJP’s third list also includes three candidates who are family members of party leaders. Kayya Jagadish, the son of former Minister Katta Subramanya Naidu, will contest from Hebbal in Bengaluru, while Manjula Arvind, wife of former Minister Aravind Limbavali, will contest from Mahadevapura Constituency.

The BJP is expected to face a tough challenge in the upcoming Karnataka Assembly elections, with the opposition Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) parties likely to put up a strong fight. The party is hoping that its candidate selection, including the addition of new names in the third list, will help it secure a victory in the polls.
