Bengaluru’s Mahatma Gandhi Road has been named as the best street in India out of a list of 30 high streets. The rankings were released by Knight Frank, a property consultant, and saw Hyderabad’s Somajiguda and Mumbai’s Linking Road take second and third place respectively. The study found that inward-looking markets such as Khan Market in Delhi and DLF Galleria in Gurugram scored low, whereas markets aligned along access roads like MG Road in Bengaluru, Somajiguda in Hyderabad, and Linking Road in Mumbai scored high.
Delhi’s South Extension (Part 1 and Part 2) took fourth place in the rankings, followed by Kolkata’s Park Street and Camac Street in fifth place. Chennai’s Anna Nagar and Noida’s Sector 18 Market completed the top ten at sixth and eighth place respectively.
The ranking of the streets was based on five major parameters, including public transport, store visibility, spending quotient, parking, and average trading density. Bengaluru was noted to have the best high streets, with four of its markets making it to the top 10 list. Commercial Street, Brigade Road, and Church Street were the other Bengaluru streets that made it to the top ten.
According to a report by the Indian Express, the average rent in MG Road was found to be between Rs 100 and Rs 125 per sq foot per month. However, Indiranagar’s 100 Feet Road fared higher with an average rent of between Rs 150 and Rs 200 per sq foot per month.
