In a significant development for aviation safety and efficiency, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has inaugurated South Asia’s inaugural Aircraft Recovery Training School (ARTS) within the premises of the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru.
This innovative institution is dedicated to imparting hands-on training in aircraft recovery and is equipped with state-of-the-art Disabled Aircraft Recovery Equipment (DARE). Through a strategic partnership with KUNZ GmbH Aircraft Equipment, Germany, BIAL aims to provide disabled aircraft recovery training under the Trainair Plus program, endorsed by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). This pioneering initiative is set to elevate operational readiness and prioritize passenger safety at KIA.
In the event of an aircraft mishap on the runway, the importance of a swift, precise, and safe recovery cannot be overstated. Such incidents require specialized personnel and equipment to minimize operational delays and prevent secondary damage to the aircraft. Recognizing this critical need, BIAL has taken a proactive step by establishing the Aircraft Recovery Training School (ARTS).
BIAL Managing Director and CEO, Hari Marar, expressed the significance of this new venture, saying, “The establishment of the school at the airport reflects BIAL’s primary goal of elevating operational efficiency and prioritizing passenger safety.” He highlighted the achievement of becoming the first Indian airport to acquire specialized code F-compatible aircraft recovery equipment and assemble a proficient team of recovery managers. These advancements underscore BIAL’s commitment to enhancing operational preparedness and safety standards in the aviation industry.
The strategic partnership with KUNZ GmbH Aircraft Equipment, a renowned German company, brings global expertise to the training programs offered by ARTS. The Trainair Plus program, recognized by ICAO, ensures that the training curriculum meets international standards, further enhancing the credibility of ARTS.
The ARTS facility is set to offer a comprehensive range of training modules. These modules include classroom sessions, one-day familiarization training, three-day hands-on training, and advanced five-day hands-on training programs. These training sessions aim to equip participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to efficiently manage aircraft recovery operations. By providing a well-rounded education, ARTS will produce experts capable of responding effectively to runway incidents.
Moreover, the availability of Disabled Aircraft Recovery Equipment (DARE) within the facility ensures that trainees can gain hands-on experience with state-of-the-art equipment. This practical training is invaluable in preparing personnel for real-life situations.
BIAL envisions the ARTS facility as a pioneering institution that sets new benchmarks in aviation training. By offering top-notch training and adhering to international standards, ARTS is expected to become a sought-after center for aircraft recovery education in the region.
