Bengaluru is set to get a new 500-meter-long stretch of food street near Seshadripuram college in Yelahanka New Town next to Doddaballapur Road and Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan Road. The new food street shall be the second official food street apart from VV Puram Food Street or Visveswara Puram Food Street in South Bengaluru.
When Is The Food Street Going To Be Inaugurated?
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) stated that it turned the stretch, which was used by the locals as a local dumping ground, into a street vending zone at a cost of Rs 3 crores. BBMP’s goal is to make the spot a popular destination for street food where all kinds of Indian food will be served. BBMP has officially stated that the street will be ready in three to four months.
Sudhakar Reddy, the Yelahanka zone executive engineer, told Times of India that the stretch was earlier used by the public as a dumping ground, resulting in waste. Due to the garbage heaps, the people could not access the area.
BBMP has floated a tender for the work; another one was issued to build small shops and huts with seating areas. The BBMP has plans to provide shops for street vendors. The civic body has decided to popularise this food street like the first official one in VV Puram.
Mr Reddy said, “The BBMP has decided to clean the place and utilise it for public purpose. We had floated a tender and the work commenced recently. Work on constructing small shops and huts, with sit-outs for the public, and beautifying the road has already commenced. It will be completed within the next few months. The shops and huts on the stretch will be given to eatery shopowners. The public can visit the street and taste their favourite food.”
VV Puram Will Witness A Revamp
VV Puram will also witness a revamp undertaken by the BBMP. A BBMP official stated that the street would be upgraded with paved with polished granite stones, LED streetlights would be installed here, fixed with grills in various patterns, and re-painting work will be done.
Since the VV Puram attracts the crowd from southern Bengaluru, the new Yelahanka food street is expected to attract a crowd from Yelahanka and adjoining areas, including Vidyaranyapura, Sahakaranagar, Thindlu, Kodigehalli, Kogilu, Ramagondanahalli and other parts on the northern outskirts of the city.
