Ever been stuck in Bengaluru’s notorious traffic jams and wondered which days are the worst? According to the Bengaluru Traffic Police, the prime culprits are Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Full Story:
Anucheth revealed that Wednesdays witness the highest congestion, aligning with the peak occupancy of tech parks on this particular day. Bengaluru’s traffic police collected data from 33 major tech parks situated on key routes like Outer Ring Road and Sarjapur Road. This comprehensive data includes hourly incoming and outgoing traffic information shared by these tech parks.
Anucheth advocates for a more balanced approach by encouraging companies to distribute in-office work from Mondays to Fridays instead of concentrating it on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. This, he believes, will help smooth out the flow of vehicles and people, potentially alleviating the midweek congestion.
Sources suggest that a significant number of tech professionals prefer working from the office from Tuesdays to Thursdays. This surge in vehicles, especially on Wednesdays and Thursdays, has exceeded the limited reach of the Bengaluru Metro, which currently connects to Whitefield but lacks extensions to other tech hubs on Outer Ring Road, Hebbal, and Electronics City. With the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) reducing the number of AC buses and the absence of dedicated lanes, the commute becomes less appealing for white-collar workers.
Examining traffic patterns throughout the week, weekdays experience peak hours from 7:30 am to 11 am and 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm. On the weekends, these peak hours shift to 11 am to 2 pm and 6:30 pm to 11 pm, likely due to people engaging in leisure activities. The BMTC’s reduced services, combined with the lack of dedicated lanes, contribute to increased journey times during peak hours.
Bengaluru Traffic Police is contemplating incorporating a schedule for US holidays into their traffic planning. Anucheth notes a correlation between a Thursday morning with significantly fewer vehicles and the start of the Thanksgiving weekend in the US.
