The announcement, heralding the ‘World Special Prize for an Interior 2023’ for Terminal 2, reflects the airport’s commitment to architectural excellence. This recognition, backed by UNESCO, underscores the terminal’s innovative design, creative appeal, and its ability to seamlessly integrate local heritage and ecological efficiency.
Opened in January 2023, Terminal 2 has quickly become a hub for both domestic and international flights. Launched by PM Narendra Modi in November of 2022, the terminal stands as a testament to Bengaluru’s identity as the Garden City of India. The architectural theme, mirroring the city’s ethos, captivates passengers with vertical gardens and bamboo roofs spread across its vast expanse. This unique blend of nature and modernity offers a distinct and memorable experience for those embarking on journeys from this terminal.
The grandeur of Terminal 2 is not just in its design but also in its scale and investment. The estimated cost of constructing the first phase of the terminal stands at a staggering ₹13,000 crores, a testament to the commitment to creating a world-class facility. Covering a built-up area of approximately 2.5 lakh square meters, Terminal 2 is set to expand further during its second phase, adding an additional 4.41 lakh square meters. The initial phase was designed to accommodate 25 million passengers annually, showcasing the ambition to cater to the growing air travel demands with unparalleled facilities.
