The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced plans to send 225 senior pourakarmikas on a short trip to Singapore. This initiative aims to expose them to international best practices in urban hygiene and cleanliness. The selection for this tour will be based on the experience of the pourakarmikas, and the funding for the trip will be provided by the Social Welfare and Urban Development Departments. The goal is to inspire behavioral changes in the participants and encourage them to become cleanliness ambassadors within their communities. To date, about 600 cleanliness staff have participated in this study tour to Singapore. However, the program was paused last year due to passport issues.

BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath emphasized the importance of resuming these tours. He stated that it underscores the BBMP’s commitment to improving city sanitation by equipping its workforce with global insights and techniques. The BBMP employs around 20,000 pourakarmikas, who are responsible for maintaining approximately 14,000 kilometers of city streets. Their tasks include sweeping dry leaves and addressing garbage black spots.
