Rockline Mall, a prominent establishment in the area, incurred the wrath of BBMP authorities for neglecting to settle its property tax dues dating back to 2011. The outstanding amount, totaling Rs 11.51 crore, prompted BBMP to take stringent action against the non-compliant property.
Despite repeated demands from BBMP, the mall management failed to clear its dues, leading to the drastic measure of sealing the premises. The visitation by senior BBMP officials, including the zonal commissioner, underscored the gravity of the situation. It is reported that the mall’s tax evasion dates back to its inauguration in 2011, inaugurated by the then Home Minister R Ashoka.
Rockline Mall’s closure marks another instance of BBMP’s crackdown on businesses with outstanding dues. The recent sealing of ‘Mantri Mall’ and similar actions against various establishments reflect BBMP’s firm stance on tax compliance and revenue recovery.
Rockline Venkatesh, the owner of Rockline Mall, is a prominent figure in the film industry, particularly known for his contributions to Kannada and South Indian cinema. Venkatesh ventured into independent film production in 1992 with ‘Belli Modagalu’ after a successful career collaborating on numerous film projects. His portfolio boasts acclaimed productions such as ‘Lingaa’ starring Rajinikanth, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ featuring Salman Khan, and ‘Power’ starring Ravi Teja.
The sealing of Rockline Mall serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to financial obligations, especially in the realm of property taxes. The BBMP’s proactive measures signal its commitment to enforcing tax compliance and maintaining fiscal integrity within the city.
