In a pivotal move to address this issue, BBMP Special Commissioner (Finance), Jayaram Raipura, has issued a compelling directive to the zonal commissioners, urging them to establish a dedicated team of revenue officials. Their primary mission is to meticulously identify the properties responsible for this illegal transformation and promptly initiate measures to revert the action taken. As the city grapples with this pressing concern, the BBMP’s decisive efforts are set to play a crucial role in restoring order and compliance within the urban landscape.
Over the past several years, a significant surge in conversions from B Khata to A Khata has been recorded, with an impressive total of 45,133 properties have undergone this transition by paying a substantial fee amounting to nearly Rs 898 crore since 2015-16. However, a concerning revelation has come to light, indicating that 37,968 of these cases have paid less than Rs 1 lakh, raising suspicions of potential illegal conversions.
Even among those who have paid higher amounts, there remains a possibility of a few unauthorized conversions, urging the need for thorough identification and investigation. BBMP Special Commissioner (Finance), Jayaram Raipura, has called for urgent measures to ascertain the legality of these conversions, aiming to address the issue and ensure adherence to the rightful norms and regulations.
As the BBMP delves deeper into the matter, a disconcerting revelation emerges, suggesting that an overwhelming 90 percent of these conversions could potentially be unauthorized and illegal. The gravity of the situation becomes apparent as the data provided by BBMP highlights the Mahadevapura Zone as the epicenter of these suspect conversions, closely followed by Bommanahalli.
