A Bajrang Dal activist was attacked by a group of 30 people for being friends with a young Muslim woman. The activist named Ajith, was attacked in Mudigere taluk on Friday, according to the police.
The police report also stated that the victim was dragged over the road and assaulted. The complaint against the accused was filed by the woman. Ajith is currently being treated at the government hospital in Mudigere.
This event took place days after a stern warning by CM Siddaramaiah and Dy. CM DK Shivakumar is against moral policing in the state. A similar incident was reported in Chikkaballapur district on May 24. While the police have taken up the Ajith case for further investigation, two people have already been arrested for the Chikkaballapur incident.
Reports suggest that Chikkamagaluru has always been a communally sensitive region. Bharatiya Janata Party’s National General Secretary CT Ravi, who hails from Chikkamagaluru, faced a humiliating defeat in the recently concluded Karnataka Assembly Elections. Congress won all five seats in the district.can
