The upcoming consecration ceremony of the Ram Mandir on January 22 in Ayodhya presents a unique parking challenge, particularly for chartered planes carrying dignitaries and VVIPs. With Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath revealing that around 100 chartered planes are expected to land at the newly inaugurated Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, Ayodhyadham (MVIAA), preparations are underway to manage the unprecedented air traffic on this significant day.

The MVIAA, equipped with eight parking bays capable of accommodating single-aisle 200-seater aircraft and smaller planes, faces a potential crunch as at least four slots are anticipated to be reserved for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aircraft. This limits the available parking space for other important arrivals during the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ event. To address the parking constraints, Ayodhya airport officials are implementing a ‘Drop-and-Move’ policy. Flights are allotted specific time slots for both landing and take-off, ensuring a systematic flow and preventing congestion. This approach aims to maximize efficiency given the limited parking facilities at Ayodhya.
Recognizing the challenge, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has identified a dozen airports within a 1,000 km range across five states—UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, MP, and Uttarakhand—to share parking spaces for jets. Airports such as Khajuraho, Jabalpur, Bhopal, Dehradun, Lucknow, Prayagraj, Kanpur, Varanasi, Kushinagar, Gorakhpur, Gaya, and Deoghar have been strategically chosen for this purpose. Reports indicate that the travel time between Ayodhya and these alternate airports varies. For instance, the flight from Ayodhya to Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport in Lucknow is estimated to take 39 minutes, while the farthest destination, Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal, will take 1 hour and 16 minutes.
Adding to the grandeur of the event, ultra-luxurious private jets, including 10-seater Dassault Falcon 2000, Embraer 135 LR & Legacy 650, Cessna, Beechcraft Super King Air 200, and Bombardier, are expected to grace the skies. Club One Air, a prominent luxury charter plane operator, has confirmed bookings for three Falcon 2000 business jets for the inauguration day.
