Self-proclaimed spiritual guru Asaram Bapu has sent a legal notice to the makers of the upcoming movie ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai,’ starring Manoj Bajpayee. The notice demands that the court issue “prohibitory orders against the promotion and release of the film.”
The movie’s trailer, which dropped on May 9th, centers around the story of a lawyer, played by Bajpayee, who fights against a godman accused of raping a minor. The film is said to be inspired by true events.
Asif Shaikh, the film’s producer, confirmed in a report by TOI that they have received the notice and stated that their lawyers will decide the next course of action. Shaikh clarified that the film is a biopic on PC Solanki, and they had acquired the rights from him to make the film.
Bajpayee recently spoke about the film, stating that it is not ‘controversial’ but ‘socially relevant.’ He also mentioned that it did not take any ‘courage’ to make the film, but rather it could act as a ‘learning’ for many parents.
The actor also praised the real-life woman who fought for justice in the case, saying, “She showed courage and fought for herself, even when there were so many big lawyers lined up against her. Be it Solanki, or even all of us, we took strength from this woman, she is the real hero.” said the actor to the Indian Express.
Manoj Bajpayee further shared, “Portraying the role of PC Solanki in Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai has been an incredible experience as it is the inspiring story of an ordinary man who fought an extraordinary case against all odds for truth and justice…I hope that it appeals to the viewers and compels them to witness this story of victory and what all it took for PC Solanki to achieve what he did.”, reported ANI.
The legal notice from Asaram Bapu’s charitable trust has yet to be responded to by the filmmakers. The release date for ‘Sirf Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai’ remains unchanged.
