A cattle trader named Idrees Pasha was murdered in the Ramanagara district of Karnataka by cow vigilantes from a right-wing Hindutva group. The incident, which took place weeks before the elections in the state, has caused widespread outrage. The family of the deceased has demanded justice and strong action against those responsible.
According to reports, Puneet Kerehalli has been recognised as one of the prime suspects behind the crime. He along with the other suspects has been booked by the authorities.
Idrees Pasha’s body was found in Sathanunur in the Ramanagara district of the state. According to the FIR filed by the family members, Pasha showed Puneet the purchase documents of the cattle, however, he abused him and demanded Rs. 2 lahks. According to reports, Puneet asked Pasha to ‘Go back to Pakistan’, and then chased and killed him.
“It was around 11.40 pm [on Friday] we were travelling in our Eicher lorry with 16 cattle when some people claiming to be cow vigilantes intercepted us right in front of the Sathanur police station. They started asking us to go to Pakistan and attacked us. Pasha and Irfan ran away but I stayed there. Fortunately, a police constable rushed towards looking at the commotion and took us to the police station.” said Zaheer, another associate of Idrees

Puneeth Kerehalli is one of the associates of Chakravarty Sulibele, the founder of the ‘yuva Brigade’. After the news broke out, several of his pictures along with the top brass of BJP leaders resurfaced on social media. In those pictures, Puneeth is seen with BJP National Secretary CT Ravi, South Bengaluru MP Tejaswi Surya, etc. He was also seen with Tamil Nadu State President for the BJP, Annamalai and the Deputy CM of Karnataka, Ashwath Narayan.

Based on the complaint filed by the family members, the police have registered a case under IPC Sections 302, 341, and 504.
