The body of a woman, believed to be around 31 to 35 years of age, was found inside a plastic drum at a railway station in Bengaluru on March 13, 2023. The drum was placed near one of the entry gates of the Baiyappanahalli railway station between 10 am and 11 am.
Through the course of their investigation, the police found that the drum was placed there by three men, who brought it in an autorickshaw. The police also found out that the body was transported to Bengaluru on a train from Machilipatnam.
According to the Superintendent of Police at the Railway Police Bengaluru, Dr. Soumlatha, a team was sent to Machilipatnam but the body could not be identified.

Similar incidents had shaken the city earlier. On January 4, the decomposing body of a woman in her late 20s was discovered in a plastic drum at Yeshwantpur railway station.
In December 2022, an unidentified body of a woman was found in a yellow sack on a passenger coach at SMVT station. The bag was only discovered when the passengers complained of a foul smell from the gunny bag which was dumped with the luggage.
