In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a Rapido bike driver, and his friend in Bengaluru. Reports state that the incident took place in the night between Friday and Saturday. The police stated that the woman had hired the bike taxi service to get dropped at her friend’s place.
“The woman had hired a ‘Rapido’ bike to go from one friend’s house to another. On the way, the bike driver took advantage and has taken her to his place, where he along with his friend raped her. There was another woman along with them during the crime, who cooperated and then tried to hush it up,” Bengaluru Police Commissioner Pratap Reddy said.
The incident took place in the Electronic city region of Bengaluru. According to a police source, the victim is from Kerala.
The Police official stated that the victim visited the doctor for medical help, after having experienced some body pain. Following the medical intervention, the police registered an FIR and arrested all the accused. The authorities have collected all the evidence from the spot with the assistance of forensic lab experts. The accused, named Shahbuddin and Akhtar, reportedly raped the woman in a house.
“A woman who was present at the house when the incident took place has also been arrested. She also provided the police with false information to protect the other accused,” Deputy Commissioner of Police South-East division Bengaluru to the NewsMinute.
According to the reports, the driver named Shahbuddin had misbehaved with the victim when the vehicle was at a shop in Electronic city. It has also been reported that when the victim gained back her consciousness, she was let free with a warning to not reveal the issue to anyone.
There have been several complaints regarding the ‘Rapido’ drivers concerning their conduct with female customers. Many have taken to Social Media to voice out their experiences. However, their online cab service has taken little to no action in these cases.
