2022 has been a tough year for the movies. Especially the one which had ‘stars’ at the helm of it. While a few movies couldn’t strike a chord with the audience, others were just outrageously bad.
Liger
This Dharma-backed project makes for a great case study. The movie was touted to be one of the most awaited films of the year in the beginning. For cine-goers, it had Vijay Devarkonda in an action movie; Puri Jagannath back with a ‘massy’ touch and the inclusion of Ananya Pandey and Karan Johar as a distributor which made it a PAN India movie!
The movie had almost everything, but lacked a script and logic. An obnoxiously loud mother, the problematic female lead, and an out-of-place protagonist. The movie was made on a budget of over 160 crores, which made it one of the most expensive movies of the year. Little did the makers know that a million-dollar project had the potential to threaten several careers.
Nikamma
There is a section of professionals in the Hindi film industry who have grossly misunderstood the meaning of ‘mass’. Nikamma is a prime example of how merely replicating the themes of the 90s cinema, could not get the audience back. With two fairly new faces as the leads of the project, Nikamma was a movie that should have been made in the early 2000s.
Abhimanyu Dassani who impressed everyone in his first movie ‘Mard ko Dard Nahi Hota’, saw a great fall, right in his second movie.
Rashtra Kavach Om – The Battle Within
Not going to lie, but just the name made me feel that I am watching a special Chota Bheem movie, and not a full-fledged piece of Hindi Cinema. There are several things wrong with this movie, ranging from loopholes in the ideation of the movie to the final execution of the project.
The movie is cut from the same cloth as the ‘Heropanti’ and ‘Baaghi’ series by Tiger Shroff. This comparison speaks volumes about the movie!
A talented cast of Aditya Roy Kapoor, Prakash Raj, Jackie Shroff, and Ashutosh Rana was wasted, in what could be called one of the biggest duds of the year.
Radhe Shyam
Since the Baahubali series, Prabhas has not enjoyed the success he would have liked with his following ventures. Radhe Shyam was an extremely ambitious project, and that perhaps was its biggest negative. A love story made on a budget of over 300 crore rupees, which was solely resting on the shoulders of a star was never going to be a good formula.
Radhe Shyam was not just a complicated movie to pull off, but also an unwanted addition to Prabhas’ filmography. The actor who has shot to fame through his action roles was never going to be a major pull through his romantic ventures.
Heropanti 2
There was a lot of chatter about the redundancy of unwanted sequels, mindless action flicks, and movies with atrocious scripts, at the beginning of this year. Heropanti 2 had all of it. One needs to ask Academy Award Winner AR Rahman, why he decided to associate with this project, but his inclusion did not help the movie by a single degree.
