According to a BBMP officer, the notices were issued due to several violations, such as lack of hygiene, improper waste disposal, and non-compliance with public and fire safety guidelines. Additionally, some of the venues were operating rooftop establishments without proper authorization.

Among the establishments that faced closure were Heart Breaker Pub and MRP in Bommanahalli, Lit Lounge café and Writers Cafe on HBR Layout, Café 23 on Outer Ring Road, Chugg Gastro Bar on Church Street, and several others in the south and west zones.

The stringent action by the BBMP comes in the wake of an unfortunate incident on October 19, when a gas leak led to an explosion at Mudpipe Cafe. The café, situated on the terrace of a four-Storey building in the bustling Koramangala area, saw a dramatic escape by one of its chefs, Prem Kumar, who jumped from the terrace to save himself. Kumar is currently receiving medical treatment for his injuries.

The closure and issuance of notices serve as a stern warning to all establishments, underscoring the significance of maintaining strict adherence to safety guidelines and regulations.

The BBMP has urged all restaurant and pub owners to prioritize the implementation of proper safety measures, including regular checks for fire hazards, adherence to hygiene protocols, and appropriate waste disposal practices. It has also highlighted the necessity of obtaining the necessary permissions and adhering to regulations when setting up rooftop establishments.

The BBMP has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the city’s residents and visitors, emphasizing the crucial role played by both authorities and business owners in maintaining a safe and secure environment.
