Two people died in an accident on Nrupatunga Road, Bengaluru Monday. A car belonging to a BJP MLA H Halappa Harathalu hit several vehicles which resulted in a major road accident, including the death of two motorists. The accident took place in close vicinity of the Karnataka State Chief’s office.
Besides the two dead, Majeed Khan (36) and Ayyappa (60), four others have been injured in the accident. The driver of the car, M Mohan, who was driving a Toyota Innova with an MLA sticker, is currently under police arrest. The MLA stickers are provided by the government.
Currently, under police arrest, a case has been registered against Mohan. Although the probe is still in process, a preliminary investigation has suggested that the 48-year-old was driving in a rash manner. The police have clarified that the driver was not under the influence of alcohol.
Reports suggest that the driver lost control while driving the vehicle and hit three two-wheelers and two cars. Khan was riding a Honda Activa and Ayyappa was riding a Bajaj.
The injured along with the dead were moved to St. Martha’s Hospital after the accident.
“The vehicle is registered in the name of Ramu Suresh, a retired forest department employee. Suresh’s son is married to Halappa’s daughter, who is a student at Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS). Mohan was heading to pick up Halappa’s daughter.”, said a police officer at the Halasuru gate traffic police station.
