Having carved his name as the trailblazing first Indian to secure a spot in the coveted World Championship final for two-wheeler racing, a feat realized in the illustrious setting of Spain last May, Shreyas Hareesh’s future seemed as bright as his racing potential. However, tragedy struck during the National Motorcycle Racing Championship (NMRC) at Chennai’s Irungattukottai circuit. The young prodigy’s life was cut short by a devastating crash, leaving a void in the sport and a somber reminder of the risks and challenges inherent to the world of high-speed competition.
Affectionately referred to as ‘The Bengaluru Kid,’ Shreyas Hareesh took to the track astride his 200cc motorbike during the fateful third round of the race on a somber Saturday. However, misfortune struck as his bike skidded, leading to the untimely detachment of his helmet. The sequence of events took a harrowing turn when another rider, trailing closely behind Shreyas, was unable to prevent a collision, resulting in a grave head injury for the young and immensely talented racer.
Tragically, Shreyas Was immediately taken to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. In the wake of this heartbreaking loss, the Madras Motor Sports Club made the difficult decision to cancel the remaining races scheduled for the weekend. Shreyas, who had just celebrated his 13th birthday on July 26, was a beacon of promise in the world of motorbike racing, admired for his remarkable command over the racing machine.

He made history in May this year when he became the first Indian to reach the World Championship final in two-wheeler racing in Spain. Competing in the FIM Mini-GP World Championship, he secured commendable 5th and 4th positions in the inaugural and subsequent races, respectively, unveiling his undeniable talent and immense potential.
Shreyas embarked on his journey in the FIM Mini-GP on the Indian circuit, emerging victorious as the 2022 champion. His excellence caught the attention of TVS after a series of podium finishes in the National Championship, leading to his selection for the rookie cup. Under the guidance of TVS, Shreyas received specialized training and was equipped with a TVS bike for his racing endeavors.
